NEO GLOBAL TAPAS & LUXE LOUNGE
On a cool Friday night in KL, chic new lounge NEO on Jalan Sultan Ismail hosted one of the events of the year.
The second annual Style Rocks! was a celebration of the unbreakable bond that exists between fine food and high fashion. All of the world’s style capitals, a celebrated list that includes cities such as London, New York, Paris, Tokyo – and now Kuala Lumpur – are also famed for their fine-dining scene.
In these places, celebrity chefs are just as common as supermodels – it’s hard to argue who’s more famous out of Gordon Ramsey and Kate Moss. The two go hand-in-hand, think of the paparazzi stalking fashionistas while they dine at restaurants such as The Ivy in London’s Covent Garden. That’s why NEO Global Tapas & Luxe Lounge – with its cutting edge design and worldly menu – was the perfect venue to host the 2009 edition of Style Rocks!
Glamorously-dressed guests arriving at the stylish venue – situated in the very heart of the city – made their way up a candle-lit set of stairs, before entering a stunning open space, protected from the elements by a large canvas awning. Along one side, water fell down a rock wall, topped by lush green vegetation – a veritable oasis in the city.
As the bold and the beautiful of Kuala Lumpur arrived, with hundreds mingling in the semi-open space, glamorously dressed ‘Juicy Couture’ girls stalked the crowd, adding an outrageous splash of colour to the evening. With their huge afros, outsized glasses, and, in one case, pretend poodle on a leash, the ladies – there to promote the famous fashion line – kept everyone entertained with their antics, not to mention attitude.
Living up to the Style Rocks! tag, the invited guests were similarly dressed to impress, some just as outrageously, sporting the latest in looks and styles. Reflecting the fashion meets food ethos of the evening, delicious canapés were served by smartly-attired waiters who glided gracefully through the crowd. Of particular mention was a splendid creamy mashed potato topped with caviar, a deceptively simple looking combination that left the crowd wanting more. The bite-sized morsels were a perfect representation of the innovative global tapas that NEO has built its stellar reputation around.
While there were enough beautiful people in attendance to distract the gaze, many eyes were nonetheless on the performer in the main room, a glittering space with glass walls and antique chandelier, as she kept guests entertained with gravity-defying feats. Others were drawn by the dance floor, as the DJ kept spinning the bouncing beats.
Boasting the perfect blend of food and fashion, not to mention stunning surroundings, beautiful people, and colourful conversation, the party went on long into the night, and some way into the next morning. If it wasn’t obvious before, there’s no doubt about it now: Style most definitely Rocks!
