Our Chefs Welcome The World!
“Great food is a central part of the Malaysian experience,”
says the Honourable Minister of Tourism and Culture,
YB Dato’ Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz

It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to experience the 14th Malaysia International Gourmet Festival themed “Red Hot Chefs!” throughout this October.

Thanks in no small part to our internationally famous and award winning MIGF, Malaysia now has a worldwide reputation for premium dining. In conjunction with ‘Visit Malaysia Year 2014’ the Festival is the ideal platform to further enhance the nation’s position as a preferred tourism destination thriving on a vibrant dining scene that is constantly evolving.

I would like to congratulate AsiaReach Events, for their tireless and always innovative efforts in single-mindedly etching Malaysia firmly on the world gastronomic tourism map. At the end of September, a spectacular three-day Festival preview event - Taste MIGF - will excite food lovers everywhere and give them a good idea of what to expect from the Festival Restaurants during October.

Taste MIGF will also feature an ‘Epicure International Gourmet Village’ plus cooking classes and lifestyle workshops as well as a new LuxuryPlus Showcase which will draw in visitors to browse through the latest luxury products in the market.

As a food lover myself, I will be making it a point to dine out with family and friends during MIGF 2014 and encourage you to do the same. Let’s all enjoy our unique and exciting Malaysian hospitality as our chefs welcome the world.

Celebrating 1Malaysia Truly Asia!

Red Hot Chefs!
“By working together, our best chefs showcase Malaysia to the world,” says YAM Tunku Naquiyuddin ibni Tuanku Ja’afar

As the Royal Patron since inception back in 2001, I am amazed that every year, without fail, a new Festival theme is adopted which appears to capture the mood of the evolving dining scene in Malaysia.

Now this year, “Red Hot Chefs!” boldly tells the world that Malaysia’s culinary talent is up there with the best. What MIGF demonstrates above all else is a collective will to succeed and my sincere admiration, respect and gratitude goes to all who are making it happen.

Today our burgeoning dining scene is proof of what this collective Festival will power can do. It is a fact that when our best restaurants are doing well, the effects trickle down to influence the entire Food and Beverage scene in the country.

And, of course, we diners all benefit too. Last year, Festival coverage on the internet amounted to some 183 million page views worldwide; while hundreds of millions of people from all over the world saw the Festival TV commercials on the Asian Food Channel, Astro and Vision Four. Even more publicity came from Festival Media Partners, Sponsors and food bloggers. It is no wonder that Malaysia has developed such a strong reputation for quality dining.

And talking of reputations, a reputation for world class dining is a key factor in influencing high net worth travellers to choose Malaysia as a tourist destination and for this reason it is pleasing to see the Ministry of Tourism and Tourism Malaysia putting their weight behind the Festival.

This October, you can be sure of another great experience when our best restaurants once again offer their latest line up of Festival Menus at special prices together with a host of special offers. The extensive variety of cuisines means that there is something to suit all tastes. You will also be warmly welcomed as each dining experience is warmly embraced by our friendly Malaysian hospitality.

Wishing all of you a wonderful MIGF 2014!

Our Chefs Are Ready For The Heat
Our “Red Hot Chefs!” are out to impress with their sizzling menus displaying a wide range of cuisines at unbeatable prices once again, says YBhg Dato’ Steve Day

We have seen an amazing transformation of the country’s dining scene since the Malaysia International Gourmet Festival started in 2001 – a change that has really benefited diners.

Just over a decade ago, hawker food ruled the roost and international food choices were limited. Back then, there were barely a dozen premium restaurants in KL and hardly any at all in the rest of the country. Now we have a dining scene teeming with hundreds of profitable top-end restaurants.

They are all over Malaysia and serve every type of cuisine imaginable. Furthermore we have witnessed the rise of the independents. Now more restaurants are located outside hotels than in them. How times have changed! Having said the above, the overall aims of the Festival still remain the same – the promotion of excellence and the raising of standards year in and year out. Our Festival restaurants are not ones to rest complacently on their laurels. By participating in MIGF they are making a statement.

They are in the premier league. They also set a healthy challenge among themselves to see who can serve the best Festival Menu for the best Festival Price. They are committed to giving you the best dining experience possible. As a diner you win hands down! MIGF is not a short term food promotion.

By promoting our locally resident Festival Chefs., we emphasise the year-round quality of our leading restaurants. You also have a collective assurance of top quality cuisine, ambience and service - you know that you will be dining with the best.

This year, Festival favourites of previous years are joined by some exciting new restaurants that are challenging the status quo and creating a huge buzz among diners. You are spoiled for choice and I recommend that you try as many of our Festival Restaurants as you can.

However, unless you are a gourmand of exceptional stamina, there is no way of visiting all restaurants during MIGF, so be sure to keep this Festival booklet as a yearround reference guide and to visit the Festival website www.migf.com for constant updates.

Happy dining!
