A throwback to the 70's, when Studio 54 ruled the club world

Movers and shakers, captains of industry, glitterati and celebrities recently ascended Menara Petronas 3 for the highly anticipated fashion party of the year, co-hosted by Vision Four and The Melium Group. Style Rocks! is the country’s hottest fashion fiesta, celebrating great food with great style and signals the midway point of the Malaysia International Gourmet Festival.

This year, no less, the party took place in what is undoubtedly one of Malaysia’s ritziest new Italian restaurants, Marini’s on 57, towering above all other restaurants in the city.

Ambient lilac lighting and flowing drapery created an unbeatable atmosphere

Oozing class and character, there could not have been a more fitting venue to host the voguish event, which was chockfull with KL’s top fashionistas.

It was a return to the days of disco, when Steve Rubell and Ian Schrager launched the legendary night club on Manhattan’s West 54th Street that played host to countless celebrities, only this time the crazy party took place right in the heart of KL, with the iconic Petronas Twin Towers as the backdrop. The sky-high ambience was second to none as the rooftop Lounge was transformed into a scene straight from the infamous club. Drenched in ambient purple lighting, it was a night of utter class as MIGF Organising Chairman, Dato’ Steve Day took to the mic and welcomed guests, officially kicking off the party.

Star of the party, power-house fashion diva and founder and President of The Melium Group Dato’ Farah Khan rocked up in Emilio Pucci, mingling with the crowd and throwing some moves on the dance floor later in the night. Champagne, wine and cocktails flowed freely, while an endless supply of mini-magnums floated about the room, the gourmet ice-cream giant having recently launched their newest flavours - chocolate strawberry and chocolate brownie – in the miniature variant.

Posters with the slogan “Keep Calm and Party Hard” were scattered around the venue, while DJ T-Bone kept the crowd on their toes with a top-notch selection of disco tunes. Everything from ABBA to Bonnie M to the Jackson 5 pumped out of the speakers with partygoers getting down and rocking ‘the robot’, ‘the hustle’ or ‘the bump’.

An array of prizes was given out to the best dressed carousers, although it was a tough decision to make as only the highest, and in some cases eccentric, of fashion trends were on show. Sequins, roller-skates, remarkable hats (some pierced with arrows!), flared trousers and collars and a plethora of other fashion styles could be seen throughout the night.

Another extravagant evening of glitz and glamour was relished by all, marrying the worlds of high-fashion and premium dining in perfect harmony. A milestone on the Malaysian calendar, we’re already looking forward to the next Style Rocks!
